Ennis, Robert C.
By Canton CitizenRobert Charles Ennis, 82, passed away on November 19, 2012, at the Bedford VA Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Robert was born in Dorchester and lived in West Roxbury, Canton, and Sandwich as well as Italy, where he co-owned the nightclub “La Cala” for several years. Affectionately known as “Buster,” Robert was an avid sports car racer and competed in events in the United States and Europe, in particular Italy. He was also a longstanding member of the Saint Moritz Tobogganing Club in Switzerland and competed in the international Cresta Run, for which he won several trophies and was interviewed in the January 1975 edition of Sports Illustrated magazine. He was a self-taught artist and loved to paint portraits of women. He was also an Army combat veteran of the Korean War.
He was the son of the late Kathleen (Smith) Ennis and Robert Ennis of West Roxbury, brother of John Ennis of Whitefield, NH, and sister to the late Helen (Ennis) O’Shea of Canton. Robert leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as his beloved friends and neighbors.
Visiting hours are Tuesday, December 4, from 6-8 p.m. at the Dockray and Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street. Burial will be Wednesday, December 5, at 2 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Bourne.
