Hockey team grateful for support of ‘pink out’ fundraiser

By

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the players of the Canton High School boys’ hockey team, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the people of Canton who helped make the “Pink out the Rink” fundraiser a huge success.

Pat Ward

As many of you know, Tara Shuman, the wife of our head coach, and Kristin Rocha, the wife of our assistant coach, are currently battling breast cancer. We undertook this fundraiser to show the Shuman and Rocha families how much we appreciate all they have done for us and the town of Canton.

During the month of December we sold pink “Beat Cancer” t-shirts at school and at the hockey rink. The response from the Canton community was overwhelming. Approximately 1,000 t-shirts were sold and worn this past Saturday night when we played against Mansfield High School. It was a very special night, and something none of us will ever forget. The rink was full to capacity with everyone in pink, including Mrs. Shuman, Mrs. Rocha, and the CHS hockey team. The Mansfield players even wore pinks laces in their skates and taped their equipment with pink tape to show our solidarity in fighting this awful disease.

As student athletes, we are very fortunate to play hockey for Canton High School and even more blessed to have Coach Shuman and Rocha as our role models and mentors. We all know how strong Mrs. Shuman and Mrs. Rocha are and hope they will be cancer-free very soon.

Once again, we want to thank everyone who contributed to making this night a success.

Sincerely,

The Canton High School boys’ hockey team
