McGurty, Winifred K.
By Canton CitizenWinifred K. McGurty (MacFarlane), 91, of Marshfield, passed away December 19 at the Rice Evantide Home in Quincy surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Arlington, she graduated from Arlington High School. She lived for many years in Marshfield, where she was the director of the CCD program at St. Anne’s Church and owned and operated a bookstore called Once Upon a Time. She also previously lived for many years in New York and Canton.
Beloved wife of the late Arthur I. Mother of Keryn McKeon and her husband, James, of Northbridge, Nancy Pando and her husband, Greg, of Canton, Christopher McGurty and his wife, Lisa, of Quincy, and the late Thomas McGurty. Sister of Mary Theriault of Waltham and the late Mary MacDonald, Barbara Gallagher, Rev. Joseph, Paul, George and Phillip MacFarlane. Sister-in-law of Josephine MacFarlane of Arlington. Also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her lifelong friend Delia Arthur of NY, and close friends Betsy Zinkus and Paula Power.
Funeral mass Thursday, December 27, at 10 a.m. in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton. Interment VA National Cemetery in Bourne Thursday at 1:45 p.m. She will be remembered for her love of faith, children, books, and her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Sandy Hook Support Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main St., Newtown, CT 06470.
