An unidentified Canton man was taken to a hospital for a non-life-threatening eye injury following a stabbing incident on Thursday morning, January 31, at an apartment complex on Walnut Street. Deputy Police Chief Helena Findlen said the man has improved and was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning. Police arrested Dontae Fox, 33, of 60 Walnut Street, and charged him with assault to maim and assault and battery on a person over 60, disabled with a serious injury. Findlen characterized the incident as a domestic dispute involving a stepson and his stepfather. Findlen said Fox was held on bail pending his arraignment.
Pecunit St. water break sends students home early
A water main break on Pecunit Street sent students home early from school on Tuesday, February 5. School Superintendent Jeff Granatino said the break impacted the Hansen Elementary School and the Galvin Middle School. Students were dismissed at 11 a.m. from the Galvin and 11:35 a.m. from the Hansen.
Suspicious package leads to evacuation of JRC
Firefighters evacuated the Judge Rotenberg Center on Route 138 on Wednesday afternoon, January 30, following the delivery of a suspicious package. The State Police bomb unit was called in and determined that the package was safe. Fire Lt. Brian Marshall said the packaging had some strange labeling and writing on it, which aroused suspicion.
Windstorm downs wires in York St. area
The Canton Police and Fire departments received numerous calls concerning downed wires and burglar alarms going off early Thursday morning, January 31. Road hazards were reported on York and Randolph streets. Fire Lt. Brian Marshall reported no major incidents following a period of high winds and bitter cold.
Police officers, firefighters practicing for hockey fundraiser
A joint team of Canton firefighters and police officers are practicing for the fifth annual charity hockey benefit to be held Saturday, March 9, at Metropolis Rink. This year’s fundraiser will benefit Police Officer Ralph Centeno, who is currently undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. The event will feature two hockey games, beginning with the Stoughton Fire/Police versus the Randolph Fire/Police at 8 p.m., followed by the Canton Fire/Police against the Boston Police Department at 9 p.m. Firefighters playing on the team include Lt. Brian Marshall and firefighters John Buckley, Jason Coleman, and Leo Reardon. Those who would like to make a donation prior to the event can drop it off at Canton Fire headquarters on Revere Street.

Correction: Last week the Canton Citizen reported that Melissa Boney, 25, of Brockton, had been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident that injured a pedestrian at the intersection of Washington and Royall Streets. Boney was charged in the incident but was not arrested.
