Lucier, Muriel P.
By Canton CitizenMuriel P. Lucier, 89, of Mansfield, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at home with her loving family by her side.
Muriel was born in Nova Scotia on July 6, 1923, to the late Allen and Hilda Russell. She grew up in Canton and became a U.S. citizen on December 28, 1955. She graduated from Studley Beauty Culture School in Boston and worked as a hairdresser. During WWII, Muriel supported the war effort by working at a Canton-based company, Mu-Switch, in the 1940s.
After she married she traveled extensively, living in New York, Japan, and Maine. She subsequently returned to Massachusetts and made her home in Canton once again. She later remarried and moved to South Yarmouth, where she spent 20 of her happiest years enjoying life on Cape Cod.
Muriel was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #132 for over 50 years, where she made many lifelong friends. She also belonged to the Trinity Episcopal Church and sang in the choir. Among her many hobbies were crafts, crocheting and gardening. Her greatest passion, however, was spending time with family. She had a special graciousness and a heart of gold, along with an infectious smile. She leaves loving memories to be treasured by all who knew her.
Beloved wife of the late Roland J. Beloved mother of her devoted daughter, Dale York and her husband, Bradford, of Mansfield, and son Douglas Vrooman and his wife, Diane, of Port St. Lucie, FL. She is the cherished grandmother of Scott Fuoco and his wife, Cheryl, of Brockton, and Dustin Vrooman of Port St Lucie, FL, and her treasured great-granddaughters Allicia and Rachael. She is survived by her dear sisters, Thelma Loring of Norwood and Phyllis Viola of Brockton, a brother, Donald Russell of Stoughton, and the late Otis and Ellery Russell. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends invited to attend a memorial service this Saturday, March 2, at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street. Burial private. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., #501, Boston, MA 02210.
