Business of the Month: Dr. Rapoport

Dr. Alan M. Rapoport, OD, grew up in Canton and is a graduate of Canton High School. He offers eye exams, eyeglasses of all kinds, sunglasses, and contact lenses. He recently added a second office in Canton and hired another optometrist, Dr. Arthur Babekov, who is fluent in Russian.

After 24 years in Canton Center, Dr. Rapoport decided to open up a second office at 1032 Turnpike Street in Canton. Many people were perplexed at his initial expansion decision, but Canton has changed and many of us still look at Canton through younger eyes — as if our town were the same as it was when we were just kids.
Dr. Rapoport and many folks considered anything on the other side of town (Route 138) to be mostly farmland and with very few homes. But a drive “up there” about one year ago completely changed the doctor’s thinking as he was shocked by the number of streets and homes on the “other side of Canton.” Also, while driving on Turnpike Street he noticed the number of apartments and condos that have been built over the last decade or so. He concluded that many of those residents and employees are people who are probably not going to drive to Canton Center for their shopping and that “maybe if I put a satellite office up there they may come to see me.”
So last January he bought office space on Turnpike Street and did the build out and has been open for almost 12 months. Each month keeps getting better, and more of the residents are discovering that they now have an optometrist really close to them while the employees of nearby businesses are coming in on their lunch hours.
The doctor is very pleased to be able to serve all of the residents of Canton. He is also a past president of the Canton Lions Club, which is a worldwide organization that does research to prevent blindness, and a past president of the Massachusetts Optometrists Association.
