Legendary Canton coach also shined in the classroom

By

Dear Editor:

I am not sure everyone in Canton understands just what an outstanding history teacher Coach Paul Therrien was. He inspired me to major in political science in college and instilled in me a sense of pride and honor in being an American citizen. I would never have enlisted in the Army and served 29 years, currently as an active duty colonel, without his tutelage and guidance as a high school student. He will always be lionized as a great football coach and well he should — there were none better. But he should also be put on a pedestal as a leader and mentor for all students, as his reach went far beyond the gridiron.

Sincerely,

Col. Bob DeYeso, Canton High School, Class of 1977
