Chapman St. shooting victim released from hospital
By Mike BergerPolice are following up on leads and hope to solve the attempted murder of a man who was shot in the neck at a Chapman Street residence in the early morning hours of Friday, March 15.
Police have not disclosed the identity or age of the victim, who was released from Boston Medical Center late last week after treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The assailant used a .45 caliber semiautomatic gun, and while the victim lost a lot of blood, the bullet only grazed his neck and did not cause any further serious injuries.
At 2:11 a.m. police received a 911 call from a woman on Chapman Street indicating that someone had come to her front door and shot her boyfriend in the neck with a firearm. The woman and her two children, who were also home at the time of the shooting, were not injured.
Police and firefighters first called EMTs and then called for a Medflight helicopter, which landed in the parking lot of the Canton Junction train station around 3 a.m. and transported the victim to Boston Medical Center.
Police secured the scene and detectives continue to investigate and are following up on all leads.
“The case is still fluid,” Police Chief Ken Berkowitz said, “and therefore we are not releasing any possible descriptions of suspects or definitive motives for this crime. Initial information obtained, however, does highlight the fact that this was not a random attack.”
This was the first shooting in the town of Canton since December 2005, according to Berkowitz.
