Reader acknowledges Canton veterans agent
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
I saw the article that was written about one of our Canton natives who ran solo in the Boston Marathon and raised $4,200 for the Pat Tillman Foundation. I read that the money will be used for educational scholarships for military and their spouses.
It reminded me of someone my mother has often talked about from Canton who also tries to help our veterans. It is Tony Andreotti, Canton’s veterans agent. My grandfather is 93 and a World War II veteran. We live in Canton. My mother has called Tony several times to ask about resources for my grandfather in case he needs added support to continue to live in our home as long as possible. Tony has always taken as much time as needed to talk about all options regardless of how busy he is. She told me it is clear that he loves his job and loves the vets.
I read that he helps veterans with benefits they are entitled to such as housing, medical services, educational opportunities and vocational assistance. He does it tirelessly. He also researched and planned a few reunions with veterans from Canton. One of them was specifically for World War II vets. My grandfather participated and it was very impressive. I also heard that Tony was instrumental in 2005 in bringing the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Wall to Canton. I read that it had an estimated 20,000 visitors.
Tony shows a genuine interest in the veterans that goes above and beyond the standard duties of a veterans agent. You probably know more about his accomplishments than I do, but I felt compelled to write about him. He is a wonderful man with a very big heart. It is an honor for Canton residents to have him as their veterans agent.
Sincerely,
