Treat the special women in your life to decadent desserts while also helping fight breast cancer during Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer from May 6 through Mother’s Day, May 12. More than 300 restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, cafés, chocolate and ice cream shops throughout Massachusetts will participate in the upcoming fundraiser, including the Chubby Chickpea in Canton.

The Chubby ChickpeaParticipating establishments have the option to designate all sales of one specific dessert or 50 percent of proceeds from their entire dessert menu to support Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., a nonprofit breast cancer organization dedicated to making a difference. Bakes for Breast Cancer will contribute 80 percent of proceeds to breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer was founded in 2000 by Carol Brownman Sneider in memory of her mother, Eva Brownman, who lost her battle with breast cancer. Since its inception the event has raised more than $650,000 for breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber through the Eva Brownman Research Fund currently under the direction of Eric Winer, MD, director of the Breast Oncology Center and the Thompson Senior Investigator in Breast Cancer Research at the Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber.

“Breast cancer is an extraordinarily complex disease that, in spite of the many clinical and scientific advances we’ve made in the past decade, will likely take the lives of 40,000 people in the United States this year,” said Winer. “The funds raised by Boston Bakes will enable us to continue our research to better understand both the causes and the many subtypes of breast cancer, which will help us to devise more effective treatments.”
