BOH announces 5th annual Summer Fun & Safety Fair
By Canton CitizenIt’s almost summer, which means that it’s time once again for the Board of Health, along with other Canton town departments and community groups to hold their fifth annual Summer Fun and Safety Fair on Friday, May 31, from 5-8 p.m. at Pequitside Farm.
Anyone who enjoys a nice relaxing day out with the family while having a good time learning about summer safety should check it out, and those families with children should take this opportunity to make it an event that is fun for the entire family. As in the past, this year’s Summer Fun and Safety Fair will have exhibitions and demonstrations to help ensure a safe and healthy summer, as well as other enjoyable activities and entertainment the whole family can enjoy.
This exceptional event is sponsored by the Board of Health in conjunction with many other town departments, with personnel from the police, fire, schools, recreation, conservation, DPW, the senior center and property maintenance. Local community organizations will be contributing their time and energy to this event as well.
Included in this year’s presentations are educational exhibitions of fire and auto safety, tick removal, bike safety, and water and pool safety. Also included will be demonstrations of sun screen use and Lyme disease prevention. Hay rides will be available as well as pony rides, crafts and more. This year’s winners of the elementary school bookmark contest will be revealed, and young participants who gather enough stickers at each demonstration will be awarded a free bicycle helmet (details will be available at the “door,” but you must arrive early to qualify and supplies are limited).
As usual, there will be some delicious freshly grilled hamburgers or hot dogs donated by the Recreation Department.
Back by popular demand is the Masonic Youth Child Identification Program (MY CHIP), sponsored by the Canton Police Department in conjunction with the Freemasons from Blue Hill Lodge, A.F. & A.M, and the 7th Masonic District. Parents can have an electronic identification profile — including DNA swabs, fingerprints, and dental impressions — created to help in the event such information is needed if a child goes missing. Only the parents retain their child’s ID records.
And as always, this event is free. So make plans to come on down to Pequitside Farm on Friday, May 31, starting at 5 p.m. and enjoy a day of sun (hopefully) and fun with the entire family — and while you’re at it, discover what things you can do to make your summer safe for all those who matter to you.
