FinCom Chair: Door is open to serve

By

Dear Editor:

I usually send something in this time of year to thank my fellow volunteers and “practically” volunteers for their hard work leading up to and during town meeting. While I still want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who put in hard work this year, I feel compelled to say more.

The Finance Committee met 18 evenings leading up to town meeting. A total of one citizen came to one meeting to comment. That is one more citizen than last year.

There are currently six open seats on the Finance Committee.

The last contested selectman race was in 2009. The last contested Planning Board and School Committee elections were in 2008.

It is easy to stand up at one or two evenings at town meeting and explain where others could have done better. It’s another thing altogether to step up, take time away from your family and your job, and keep Canton one of the best run towns in Massachusetts.

To those who do it, thank you. To those who complain, the door is open.

Sincerely,

Mark Porter

Chairman, Finance Committee
