Police probe home invasion, Rite Aid robbery
By Mike BergerA 90-year-old Chapman Street resident was watching television on Sunday night, May 26, around 8:30 p.m. when he was confronted by an alleged intruder who had broken into his home along with two accomplices, according to Deputy Police Chief Helena Findlen. The man told police that the intruder had approached him from behind and ordered him to stand up, and he felt something pressing against the back of his head.
The intruder then raced to the kitchen and the two accomplices fled the house. Findlen said the man was not hurt but was visibly shaken. He reportedly saw the other two men fleeing but could only describe one suspect — a black male who he estimated to be about five feet, eight inches tall, approximately 19-21 years old, and wearing a black jacket with a hood.
A canine unit from Randolph was called in but lost track of the scent. Findlen said detectives found a back door forced open and drawers that were gone through; however, no items were taken.
No one hurt in Rite Aid armed robbery
A cashier at the front end of Rite Aid in Canton Center was not hurt in an armed robbery incident that occurred on Sunday, May 26, at 1:15 p.m. The cashier told police she saw a gun sticking out of a backpack worn by the suspect. She described him as a heavy-set white male, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a red plaid jacket over a hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, and having a beard. He fled into a beige or gold sedan in the Rite Aid parking lot.
The cashier said the man asked for cigarettes and directions and then said, “Give me all of your money.” Deputy Chief Helena Findlen said the suspect took an undetermined amount of cash in the robbery.
