Canton A’s baseball off to competitive start

Through seven games, the Canton A’s semi-pro baseball team is off to a 3-4 start — an encouraging sign, according to head coach Kee Arguimbau of Sharon.

The A’s, led by general manager Cab Devoll of Canton, is made up of college and post-college players from across the region.

Last year’s team finished sixth in the nine-team Cranberry League at 10-14-1 but still made the playoffs. Returning players include Nick Radcliffe, Alex Rossi, Steve Delanian, and Joe Belmosto, along with a pair of outstanding college pitchers in Tim Bonham and Tyler Hitchcock.

Joining the squad from the Canton American Legion team are Dave Roberto and Dan Freedman. Arguimbau believes he has a more talented team than last year, with the only hole being at closer.

In the first seven games, the A’s lost to perennial power Braintree three times, 8-0 twice and 7-4. Their early wins have come against Kingston and Weymouth.

Other league opponents include Easton, Brockton, and Rockland. The A’s play a 24-game schedule, which goes until July 14.

Home games are played at CHS at 6 p.m. on weekdays and either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. on Sundays. The team was due to play Easton on the road on Tuesday, June 11, followed by a home game tonight against Kingston and a Sunday doubleheader against Brockton at Massasoit Community College. Brockton then comes to Canton on Tuesday, June 18.
