Canton paramedics deliver baby
By Canton CitizenFor the second consecutive week, Canton firefighters assisted in the arrival of a new baby. This week, a newborn was delivered in an ambulance on route to Norwood Hospital on Friday, June 21, at 2:35 a.m. The ambulance answered a call for a woman in labor on Vaughn Street. Assisting in the birth were firefighter-paramedics Steve Driscoll and Chris Hiltz. On a call a week ago, firefighter-paramedics answered an emergency call for a woman in labor, and by the time they arrived, the baby had already been delivered. Both mothers and babies are doing well, said Fire Lt. Brian Marshall.
Firefighters contain chimney fire
Canton firefighters responded to a chimney fire on Winfred Way last Tuesday evening, June 18, around 6:45 p.m. They were able to contain the damage to the chimney itself as the fire did not extend to the house. Fire Lt. Brian Marshall said the fire was caused by the buildup of creosote in the fireplace. Ten firefighters responded and cleared the scene within 35 minutes.
Firefighters train St. John’s staffers on use of defibrillators
Fire Captain Tad Johnston, EMT Coordinator Jamie Meier, and firefighter-paramedic Steve Driscoll taught CPR and defribillator lessons to 18 parishioners of St. John’s Church last week. The church purchased its own equipment, with the defibrillators now ready for use in the church and rectory.
CPD’s Scott Brown participates in workout marathon fundraiser
Canton Police Officer Scott Brown, a member of the MetroLEC SWAT Team, participated in the 26-hour Boston Strong First Responders Workout Marathon at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro last weekend. The event raised $130,000 for the One Fund Boston for victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.
