Gridley Preschool canceled, Dunkin’ robbery

By

The Gridley Preschool program, offered through the Recreation Department, has been cancelled due to a lack of interest and participation.

The program was facing a $10,000 deficit due to low enrollment totals and low tuition rates, which were expected to go up considerably next year. Selectmen had recently given Recreation Director Janet Maguire a 10-day extension to recruit more participants; however, Town Administrator Bill Friel said the June 28 deadline came and went with no additional deposits received.

“Regrettably, due to lack of interest, the program will not be offered in the fall,” said Friel.

The 12 families who had already enrolled for next year will have their deposits refunded.

The man then fled on foot, but police believe he was later picked up on Neponset Street. The Canton canine unit was called in but later lost the scent of the suspect, who is described as a light-skinned male, approximately five feet, eight inches tall.

A motorist was transported to Norwood Hospital for non-life threatening injuries following a single-car accident that ended just before the entrance to the Luce School. The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 29. Deputy Fire Chief Scott Johnson said the driver, because of a medical issue, lost control of his car while traveling on Pleasant Garden Road. The car continued onto Luce Drive, striking a fence and some brush before hitting a three-foot wall just before the school. “Considering the time of day and location, it could have been much worse,” said Johnson. Six firefighters and EMTs worked to transport the man out of the car and to the hospital.
