Kelleher, Robert J.
By Canton CitizenRobert J. Kelleher, 86, passed away July 9 at the Clark House in Westwood after a long illness.
A resident of Canton and Harwichport for over 60 years, Robert was born in Boston and grew up in West Roxbury and Roslindale. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Seabees branch of the Navy as a Seaman First Class Heavy Equipment Operator in Okinawa, Japan.
Upon his retirement in 1984, after a lifelong career with General Foods Corp., Robert enjoyed his retirement years bike riding around Harwichport with his grandchildren, showing them back roads and secret paths. He also enjoyed boating and woodworking and made many fine pieces of furniture. He always looked forward to winter trips to Englewood, Florida, for family vacations.
Beloved husband of the late Geraldine M. (Griffin). Father of David and his wife, Linda, of Plymouth, and Janet Brown and her husband, Walter, of Stoughton. Cherished grandfather of Bryan and Kaitlyn Kelleher and Allyson and Timothy Brown. Brother of the late Dorothy MacDuff, Vincent, Paul and Richard Kelleher. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
A funeral service was held Monday, July 15, at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street. Interment Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Veterans Service Department, 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
