Globe releases ‘Best of Beverly Beckham’ e-book
By Jay TurnerThe Boston Globe has launched a new e-book from renowned Globe columnist, author and Canton resident Beverly Beckham.
The book, entitled The Best of Beverly Beckham: I was the sun, the kids were my planets and other reflections from the Globe columnist, was released last month and reflects on Beckham’s life experiences, focusing on her columns from the past eight years. Beckham’s relatable stories, conveyed through 22 columns and photos, are organized into time periods throughout life: Beginning, Weddings and Marriage, Kids and Grandkids, and The Way We Were.
The collection of columns and photos, hand-picked by Beckham, feature stories about her family and friends — including many from her adopted hometown of Canton.
“All of these columns are among my favorites,” said Beckham, who previously wrote for the Patriot Ledger and Boston Herald in a career that has spanned three decades.
She likened the selection process to an “archeological dig” as she sifted through eight years worth of printed columns with the assistance of Globe librarian Lisa Tuite.
“I could never have done this without her,” Beckham said of Tuite. “I never saved the columns. So I wouldn’t have found some of them. And reading them on the computer is different from reading them on paper. This was fun … It made me want to go through older columns and make a collection of those.”
Beckham said she is “very happy” with the final product and has already gotten some “amazing” feedback from readers.
“I love the whole idea,” she said of the e-book. “And I love the way it came out. The Globe did a great job on the design. Of course I wish it were a ‘book’ book because lots of people have emailed and said [they] don’t have a Kindle and don’t have an iPad. But lots of people have emailed and said how easy it was to download.”
The author of two previous books and a frequent guest on radio and TV as well as a keynote speaker for organizations nationwide, Beckham is celebrated for her ability to make her readers appreciate the extraordinary joys in everyday life.
Her new e-book is currently available for free to Globe subscribers at www.bostonglobe.com/ebooks and available for purchase for $2.99 on Amazon, iTunes and Barnes & Noble.
