Life is good fest returns to Canton Sept. 21-22

Beginning next Saturday, September 21, thousands of festival goers will descend on Prowse Farm in Canton for the fourth annual Life is good Festival, a two-day celebration of music and optimism sponsored by Boston-based apparel company Life is good in partnership with acclaimed concert promoter Superfly Presents.

LIGFEST_2013_LogoThe “one of a kind,” all-ages event is expected to draw more than 30,000 people and will once again feature “three stages of nationally known musical talent, hands-on games and interactive arts activities.”

Headliners for this year’s event include folk rock singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, the legendary rock and soul duo Daryl Hall & John Oates, and popular children’s act Yo Gabba Gabba. Other notable acts include The Roots, Amos Lee, Dawes, Trampled by Turtles, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, as well as kids’ performers Josh & the Jamtones and Recess Monkey.

“Every music festival has its own feel,” said Jack Johnson, a Grammy nominated musician and former professional surfer. “All my friends that have played at the Life is good Festival have told me that the energy that the crowd brings is like nowhere else. I can’t wait to finally experience it myself.”

Once again, all proceeds from the festival will go to support the Life is good Kids Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that has raised over $9.5 million since 2003 for kids in need. The Kids Foundation directly funds the Life is good Playmakers program, which provides training and support to childcare professionals who are committed to helping children overcome “life-threatening challenges, including violence, illness and extreme poverty.”

The goal of the festival is to create a “community of fundraisers” in an effort to raise more than $1 million for the Kids Foundation. To help achieve this goal, Life is good will once again enlist the help of festival goers by offering special “perks and privileges” to anyone who raises $250 or more.

Privileges include a free festival t-shirt and merchandise discounts, as well as access to the VGP (Very Good Person) lounge area and preferred concert viewing. Those who raise $1,500 or more will receive the ultimate package, including backstage hospitality, headliner meet and greet opportunities, a catered lunch and dinner, and preferred parking.

New to this year’s festival will be the Life is good Coffeehouse — a “relaxed, intimate atmosphere” where festival goers can enjoy the new line of Life is good coffee and an acoustic lineup curated by singer-songwriter Ryan Montbleau.

In addition to the musical performances, the festival will also offer a wide array of games and activities as well as diverse local food, hands-on art projects, and a variety show featuring Rob Surette’s Amazing Hero Art, a BMX stunt show, and a performance by juggler and comedian Peter Panic. There will also be a special “Chillville” area set aside for families, complete with “comfy seating, blankets for relaxation, a mellow vibe, and easy-going activities” such as kids’ yoga, storytelling, magic tricks, and a nature show presented by the Trailside Museum.

Tickets to this year’s festival can be purchased online at lifeisgood.com/festival. Adult tickets are $65 for one day or $120 for a two-day pass. Kids’ tickets are $20 for one day or $35 for a two-day pass. Children under 2 are free.

The festival will open each day at 11 a.m. with performances beginning at 11:55. The festival grounds will close at 9:30 p.m. on both days.
