Whitley, George H.
By Canton CitizenGeorge H. Whitley, 94, of Canton, passed away September 5 at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton.
Born and raised in Dorchester, he graduated from Mechanic Arts High School and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Boston Police Department for many years and retired as a homicide detective in 1981. After his retirement he worked as a professional assistant at several local funeral homes and enjoyed fixing anything around the house. He has lived in Canton for the last 19 years where he was a member of the Canton Senior Men’s Club.
Beloved husband of Mary R. (MacNeil). Father of Ellen L. Whitley of Quincy, Robert B. Whitley and his wife, Janet, of Canton, Mary J. Whitley-Collins of Cohasset, Mark D. Whitley and his wife, Maryann, of Quincy, and the late Paul W. and Joan M. Whitley. Father-in-law of the late Tucker Collins and Nancy A. Whitley. Also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Monday morning, September 9, in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton. Burial New Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 601 Sherman St., Canton, MA 02021.
