Man apprehended after pursuit on York St.
By Canton CitizenAn Avon man has been charged with multiple motor vehicle offenses and a drug possession charge after leading police on a brief chase down York Street and Indian Lane on Saturday night, September 14.
Officer Scott Brown spotted the motorist speeding down York Street. He pursued the vehicle and the man finally stopped at the Indian Lane water tower. Brown, the department’s canine officer, had Bosco with him and the dog helped Brown locate a bag of cocaine in the car.
James M. Perkins, 44, of Avon, was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, OUI, failure to stop for a police officer, speeding, marked lanes violation, and possession of a class B substance. He was held pending his arraignment this week. Brown was assisted in the arrest by Officer Errol Lane.
Man found before search begins at Blue Hills Reservation
A combination of Canton police officers, Canton firefighters, and State Police were about to begin a search for a lost hiker at the Blue Hills Reservation on Wednesday, September 11, around 3 p.m. when the man walked out of the woods and into a parking lot. Fire Chief Charlie Doody said the man had contacted police on his cell phone and was able to find his way out based on the noise of the trucks in the parking lot.
Town holds 9/11 remembrance ceremony at CFD headquarters
Members of the Canton Police and Fire departments gathered at fire headquarters last Wednesday for a remembrance ceremony in honor of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Selectmen Chairman Sal Salvatori, state Representative Bill Galvin, Fire Chief Charlie Doody, and Police Chief Ken Berkowitz were on hand along with Town Hall employees and the fifth graders from St. John’s School.
