Girls’ cross country rebounds vs. Foxboro
By Mike BergerThe CHS girls’ cross country team notched its second win of the season, beating Foxboro 23-32 last Tuesday on the road. The boys’ team continues to improve and came within five points of its first win, falling to the Warriors 25-30.
For the girls’ team, senior captain Amanda Eagles won the meet with a time of 22:06 while senior captain Courtney Loughnane finished third overall in 22:41. Rounding out the top five for Canton were junior Julia Guerini (22:54), senior Michaela Kelley (23:01), and junior Kerin Senett (23:21).
“I was proud of our girls today,” said head coach David Hiltz. “Having a few girls out due to injury (notably Catherine Song), the team stepped up to the challenge and ran well on a challenging course.”
In the boys’ meet, Foxboro swept the top three spots, but Canton captured the next five with Courtland Priest leading the way at 19:31. Joe Clancy was next with a time of 19:37, followed by Spencer Polsgrove (20:15), senior captain Matt Derbin (20:19), and Dan Brooks (20:21).
“It was a close race as we predicted it would be, and we came up short,” said Hiltz. “I am proud of the way we ran as Foxboro has a new course that is challenging.”
Both teams were due to host Milford at home on Tuesday, October 1.
