Bulldog golfers post best record in over a decade
By Mike BergerAfter another excellent regular season, the 10-4 CHS golf team is now preparing for the Hockomock League championships October 17 (today) and the first round of the Division 2 state tournament at the Easton Country Club on Monday, October 21. The 10-4 record is the team’s best finish since 2002.
The Bulldogs ended the regular season going 2-1 last week, with wins over Foxboro (152-179) and Mansfield (153-156) and a one-point loss to undefeated Oliver Ames (158-157).
The OA match was played last Tuesday at Blue Hill Country Club. CHS head coach Mike Barucci said the team did not play its best golf and it “cost us the loss, which is the only home loss for the year.” Mike Breviglia shot a three-over-par 38, followed by 40 scores for Sam Riemer, Sam Hrubec, and Brian Halloran.
In the win over Foxboro, the team played well in windy conditions. Breviglia had the lowest score with a 37; Riemer and Hrubec each shot a 30, and Sage Lee came through with a 39.
“Mike played really well for us,” said Barucci. “Sam and Sage also posted great scores. It was a great win in very windy conditions.”
In the win over Mansfield, Hrubec had a one-over-par 37, followed by Luke Thompson and Halloran with a 38 and Breviglia with a 40.
“This was our last match of the season,” said Barucci. “We played great on a course that none of the eight (starting golfers) had played before.”
Riemer, Hrubec, and Breviglia will be playing for CHS at the Hock Championships today at Granite Links in Quincy.
