McCarthy, Michael J.

Michael J. McCarthy, 67, of Canton, passed away suddenly at Tufts New England Medical Center December 2.

Born in Boston, he was raised in Hyde Park and graduated from Hyde Park High School and served in the Army during the Vietnam Era. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Boston State, his master’s in education from UMass Boston, and his MBA from Suffolk University. He worked as a computer programmer for Computer Science Corporation in Taunton for many years.

He was the former president of Canton Youth Hockey and a member and former club champion of Easton Country Club.

Beloved husband of Margaret M. (Ward). Proud father of Christopher D. and his wife, Kathleen, of PA. Loving grandfather of Aidan, Emma and Grace McCarthy. Devoted brother of Elaine Daszkiewicz and her husband, John, of North Reading, and the late Jean McCarthy. Brother-in-law of John Ward and his partner, Joseph Miglorie, of Chelsea, Gerard Ward and his wife, Lorraine, of Concord, and James Ward and his wife, Anne, of Melrose. Also survived by his great aunt Mary Cooper of Peabody. Loved by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Burial private. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Anthony Shrine, 100 Arch St., Boston, MA 02110.
