Narcotics investigation leads to arrest of Canton man
By Mike BergerA Canton man is facing an assortment of drug charges after he was arrested last week following a months-long investigation into the sale of illegal narcotics from his Bayberry Road home.
On Thursday, December 12, at 9 p.m., Canton detectives and the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (MetroLEC) SWAT team executed a search warrant at 15 Bayberry Road, where they found quantities of cocaine and oxycodone as well as two firearms, one of which was loaded and unsecured.
Police arrested Christopher Moy, 25, and charged him with conspiracy to violate the drug law; two counts of possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance; possession with intent to distribute a Class E substance; and distribution of Class B and Class E substances.
According to police, when officers entered the residence, Moy fled to an upstairs bathroom where he was found by SWAT officers attempting to flush the narcotics down the toilet. The officers were able to take him into custody without incident.
At his arraignment, Moy pleaded innocent to all charges. Bail was set at $15,000, and according to Canton Police Prosecutor Scott Lenhart, Moy made bail and was released pending a January 10 court appearance.
Detectives are continuing their investigation into the two weapons recovered from the scene. Police said at this time, Moy is not facing firearms charges, although police said no one at the residence is licensed to carry firearms.
Police Chief Ken Berkowitz complimented all of the detectives who worked on the case, especially Detective Glen Piro, who headed the investigation.
“Due to their professionalism, the scene was secured, evidence was recovered, and the suspect was taken into custody,” said Berkowitz. “Every officer involved should know that their hard work and determination to interrupt the flow of illegal drugs in our community resulted in the December 12 arrest and potentially saves lives.”
Moy’s arrest was the second major drug arrest in Canton last week. On Monday, December 9, police interrupted an attempted marijuana delivery and seized nearly $40,000 worth of the drug (approx. nine pounds).
The suspect, Nicolas Farrigno, 51, of Portland, Oregon, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance law. Farrigno pleaded not guilty to the charges and was held on $5,000 bail pending a December 23 court appearance.
