Town clerk announces vacancies for ’14 election
By Canton CitizenTown Clerk Tracy Kenney has announced that nomination papers for the April 8, 2014 annual town election will be available in the town clerk’s office beginning at 9 a.m. on January 27. The last day to obtain nomination papers is February 14 at 5 p.m.
Those seeking office in the election must obtain the signatures of at least 50 registered voters in the town of Canton. The last day to file completed nomination papers with the town clerk’s office is February 18 at 7 p.m.
The offices to be contested are as follows: Board of Selectmen (two 3-year terms), Board of Assessors (one 3-year term), Board of Health (one 3-year term), School Committee (two 3-year terms), Planning Board (one 5-year term), Trustees of Public Library (three 3-year terms), and Housing Authority (one 5-year term).
A question will appear on the ballot to see if the town will vote that MGL Chapter 44B (Community Preservation Act), as accepted by the town, be amended by adopting Section 3(e) exemption (4), exempting $100,000 of the value of each taxable parcel of class three, commercial property, and class four, industrial property, as defined in MGL c. 59, § 2A.
