Jacobs, Joseph J.
By Canton CitizenJoseph “Joe” J. Jacobs, a longtime resident of Canton, passed away December 29 at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton, surrounded by his children.
Born and raised in Roslindale, Joe attended Mechanic Arts High School in Boston before enlisting in the Navy where he served his country during World War II and the Korean War. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Engineman Second Class, V-6 USNR. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Gerard Majella Parish, Blue Hills Civic Association, Canton Sons of Italy, and 296 Bowling Club. He was a devoted father to his six children, sharing with them all his love of swimming, boating, waterskiing, snow skiing and snowmobiling.
Beloved husband for 53 years of the late Mary N. (DiMartino). Father of Jay Jacobs and his wife, Lynda, of Mashpee, Lynne Salvaggio and her husband, David, of Weymouth, Diane Jacobs of Canton, Mary Beth Mrlack and her husband, Vince, of Canton, Jaynne Adams and her husband, Jim, of Hopkinton, and the late Laurie Siebert. Father-in-law of Tom Siebert of Franklin. Brother of Albert Jacobs of Needham, Mary Coleman of NH, and the late Paul, William, Leo and Gertrude Jacobs. Grandfather of Joe, Nicole, Robert, Chelsea, Carly, Paul, Holly, Matt, Jimmy, and the late Heather. He will be greatly missed by many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Thursday, January 2, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton Friday at 10 a.m. Burial Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hellenic Nursing Home, 601 Sherman St., Canton, MA 02021.
