Police use social media to nab suspected thief

By

The Canton Police Department’s recent public plea for information on a pair of suspected credit card thieves led to the arrest of two men in Mattapan earlier this week.

Police had taken to Facebook on January 27 in hopes of identifying the individuals, who had allegedly stolen several credit cards from Canton and used them at Target stores in Stoughton, Roxbury and Somerville. Within hours of posting the suspects’ photos, tips “poured in from the public,” according to police.

The information led them to Wilmore Street in Mattapan, where detectives from the Canton and Boston Police Departments executed a search warrant on Tuesday, February 11.

Police arrested one of the suspects, Keith Thelwell, 47, and charged him with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle as well as multiple counts of larceny by scheme. Boston Police also arrested Jerry Jackson, 26, for narcotics violations, and two other individuals are being questioned. The items that were purchased using the stolen credit cards were also recovered as well as a quantity of narcotics.
