Cravens, William C.
By Canton CitizenWilliam C. Cravens, Sr., 88, of Canton, passed away March 3 at the Madonna Manor in North Attleboro.
Born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia, he graduated from Huntington High School. He went on to attend the University of Kentucky, where he played basketball for Adolph Rupp and later graduated from Marshall University in West Virginia. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a production manager for Raytheon, Electro Switch, Computer Vision, Bomar, and finally retired from GTE.
He has lived in Canton for 53 years where he previously was a sportswriter for the Canton Journal, a coach for the Canton Football Association, and was an avid fan of all the Canton High sports teams.
Beloved husband of the late Mary Francis (Woods). Father of Edward Cravens and his wife, Joyce, of East Bridgewater, William Cravens and his wife, Rose, of Canton, Carol Duggan and her husband, William, of Canton, and Kimberly Piro and her husband, Joseph, of Mansfield. Also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Friday, March 7, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral service at the First Baptist Church, 2 South Main Street in Sharon, Saturday morning, March 8, at a time to be announced.
