One injured in Pleasant St. house fire

A Canton firefighter was injured while responding to a house fire on Pleasant Street on Tuesday, February 25, around 8:30 p.m. The firefighter fell down a flight of stairs and sprained his hand. Fire Lt. Donald Lester said the firefighter has returned to work.

The fire spread from the wood stove on the first floor up the walls to the roof. Lester said firefighters had to open many of the walls to control the fire and reported significant damage. The homeowners were evacuated, but the house is still habitable, Lester said. Fifteen firefighters remained on the scene for three hours while members of the Stoughton and Norwood fire departments covered Canton’s two stations.

Mechanic suffers serious injuries

An unidentified mechanic from EM Foley Construction Co. on Cedar Street was transported to Boston Medical Center following an accident on the job on Saturday afternoon, March 1. Fire Lt. Donald Lester said the mechanic, who was pinned underneath a truck and had to be extricated, suffered serious internal injuries. Six firefighters responded to the scene.

CO detectors available for hearing impaired residents

Through a state Department of Public Health grant, the Canton Fire Department and Council on Aging were able to purchase 30 carbon monoxide detectors for the hearing impaired. First installations began this week. The detectors utilize the latest technology, including remote “pillow vibration” devices and strobe lights. Those residents who are interested in these free CO units should call Fire Lt. Donald Lester at 781-575-6654 for an installation appointment.
