Reginald Remy, 92, formerly of Fall River, passed away February 28, 2014. The kind and generous spirit of Regi Remy succumbed after a short illness, surrounded by his family.

reginald remyReginald was born in Fall River, a son of the late Leon Remy and Marie-Louise (Ferland) Remy. Married for 65 years to his beloved Claire (Charette), they raised three boys in Fall River. Regi was known for his devotion to his family, friends and community. He was particularly involved in helping the disabled community as their oldest son, Paul, was born with cerebral palsy.

Regi was a graduate of Le Prevost High School and worked for over 30 years as a budget analyst at the Naval Underwater System Center in Newport, Rhode Island. He served in World War II as a French interpreter, photographer and marksman from 1942-1945. When he returned he married the young woman who had been sending him letters of encouragement during the war. Later, he wanted to help those in financial need and helped to start the Blessed Sacrament Credit Union. He was the treasurer for over 40 years and was glad to help people in need. He enjoyed his garden, baseball, football, a good restaurant, and occasional trips to Atlantic City.

Besides his wife, Claire, he leaves three sons: Paul of Sharon, Robert of Newfoundland, Canada, and Roger and his wife, Susan (Lockett), of Canton. He will be greatly missed by his adored grandchildren, Julia Claire and Sophia Marie. He also leaves a brother, Bertrand, of Somerset, and two sisters, Theresa Remy and Lorraine Lemay, of Fall River, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass was held on Tuesday, March 4, in the Parish of Holy Trinity in Fall River. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Donations in Regi’s memory can be made to Camp Jabberwocky, a summer camp for people with disabilities, P.O. Box 1357, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.
