CPD mobile operations arrived at Logan Airport Sunday morning to assist State Police, Boston Police, and the U.S. Secret Service in a motorcade to Canton, and CPD officers provided security for the prime minister throughout his stay at the ICCNE.

Fire Dept. warns about chimney fires

The third chimney fire in the last three weeks in Canton has prompted the Fire Department to issue some preventative steps for homeowners. Last Friday around 7 p.m., firefighters were called to a home on Dedham Street that had flames escaping from the top of the chimney. Fortunately, Fire Lt. Donald Lester said there was minimal damage as the homeowner was able to stop the burning immediately and the flames were quickly doused by firefighters. Lester attributed the cause of that fire and the other two recent chimney fires to a lack of cleaning.

Lester said the chimney should be cleaned and inspected every year by a nationally certified inspector. In addition, those who plan to install a wood stove must first obtain building permit. Regarding operations, Lester suggested that all materials be kept at a minimum of three feet away from the stove and ashes should be disposed of in a metal container with a lid.

Fire chief issues poison prevention notice

This week is National Poison Prevention Week and Fire Chief Charlie Doody joined with the American Association of Poison Control Centers in reminding residents to make sure that their homes are safe from poisons. He said National Poison Prevention Week is a good time for people to check their homes to see if all medicines and garden chemicals are stored properly and out of the reach of children.
