The Canton Community Theatre will present Clue — the play based on the movie based on the board game — on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29 and April 4-5, at 7:30 p.m. at the CCT space at the Village Shoppes, located at 95 Washington Street (next to the Shoe Dept and across from the Halfway Café).

“We have a cast filled with plum and old, green and seasoned,” said Director Jeremy Comeau. “We aim to solve the 65-year-old question … whodunit? You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you might even drink — just not the cognac. All kidding aside, I am extremely proud of this cast and crew for their hard work, including my right-hand woman, Helen van Riel.”

In this spoof of McCarthy-era paranoia and 1950s wholesomeness, the characters and plot are drawn from the popular Parker Brothers board game of the same name. On a dark and stormy night in 1954, six individuals with ties to Washington are assembled for a dinner party at the swanky mansion of one Mr. Boddy (played by Jonathan Cattel). Boddy’s housekeeper, Wadsworth (Amanda Rockwell), assigns each guest a colorful name: Mr. Green (Michael Kazenel), Col. Mustard (Chris Sabatino), Mrs. Peacock (Renee Hanscom), Professor Plum (Rich Morton), Miss Scarlet (Mitti Bhattacharya), and Mrs. White (Kelly Lane).

Two additional servants, the Cook (Kathy Alfano) and Yvette, the maid (Roxana Rubin), assist Wadsworth as she informs the guests that they have been gathered to meet the man who has been blackmailing them: Mr. Boddy. When Boddy turns up dead, however, the guests must try to figure out who killed him so they can protect their own reputations and keep the body count from growing.

The Clue cast is rounded out by The Motorist (Cheryl Myles), The Singing Telegram Girl (also Kathy Alfano), and The Evangelist (Reggie Joseph). Along with Comeau, the production team includes producer Helen van Riel, set manager Barbara Carbone, tech director Bob Cattel, and rounding out the set support team is Nicky Carbone.

“I’m excited to be preparing and taking stage for my debut performance at Canton Community Theater,” said Bhattacharya, who plays the cunning femme fatale. “Many, many moons ago in a land far, far away, I had performed in various musical theater and drama productions during my high school and college years. After watching my own children take stage in their performances, the acting bug resurfaced and took a bite out of me. Now, it’s my turn to make a connection back with the performing arts as well as getting to know other members within the Canton community. I’m grateful for the opportunity and cannot thank my Clue cast members enough for opening their doors to this newbie.”

“I am extremely pleased to be working with Canton again,” said CCT veteran Rich Morton. “I have enjoyed doing many shows with them. My latest were Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Clause, Xanadu, and a series of one acts. I have thoroughly enjoyed Clue. My character (Prof. Plum) is quite the ladies man or at least he thinks he is. I keep telling people that I am a lover not a killer. Come out and see the show. I promise a great time.”

The Canton Community Theatre will also offer some great giveaways and auction items during the show productions. “Not only will you see the show, but you’ll be part of the show so reserve your tickets soon!” said Comeau.

So, was it Colonel Mustard in the study with the gun? Miss Scarlet in the billiard room with the rope? Or was it in fact Wadsworth the housekeeper? Meet all the notorious suspects at the Canton Community Theatre’s production of Clue. You’ll love their dastardly doings as the bodies and the laughs pile up before your eyes. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased in advance at cantoncommunitytheatre.org (strongly encouraged as there is limited seating) or at the door.
