Canton Runners Spotlight: Boston Marathon Edition
By Jay Turner* Kate D’Orazio of Canton is running in the 118th Boston Marathon as a member of the Harvard College Marathon Challenge team. D’Orazio, a 2011 CHS graduate and a junior at Harvard, is hoping to raise at least $2,620 for Team HCMC. All funds raised will benefit the Phillips Brooks House Association Summer Urban Program, which delivers educational and enrichment programming to underserved youth throughout the greater Boston area. * Canton residents MaryAnn Johnson and Alexis Regan are both running in this year’s Boston Marathon as members of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team. Johnson and Regan, along with more than 700 DFMC teammates, are hoping to raise $5.3 million for the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber. The program supports cornerstone science research in its earliest stages, providing researchers with critical resources to test their leading-edge ideas. To contribute to the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge on behalf of Johnson or Regan, search for their names under “Support a Runner” at www.RunDFMC.org.
* Jo Lysko, a Canton mother of three, is running in the Boston Marathon as part of Team MR8, which was established in honor of 8-year-old bombing victim Martin Richard. (Click here for related story.) Lysko is hoping to raise $20,000 for the Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation, which seeks to honor Martin’s message of “no more hurting people — peace” by investing in education, athletics and community.
