CHS jr. prom relocated following Lakeview Pavilion fire
By Mike BergerFollowing the destruction of the Lakeview Pavilion in Foxboro on Saturday night, April 5, Canton High School junior class advisor Joyce Stenmon worked with students to find a new location for tomorrow night’s junior prom.
CHS Principal Derek Folan informed parents in an email Sunday night that the prom would be moved to the Blue Hill Country Club in Canton.
“We are particularly pleased that they are going to offer the same menu and they can accommodate the same seating plan,” Folan wrote. “As a reminder, all junior prom attendees must be checked in by 7:30 p.m. and must stay for the duration of the evening. I want to commend the great work of [Stenmon] and the junior class officers who spent [Sunday] visiting sites and reviewing options. They went with the best option for our students, and I could not be happier that we headed to Blue Hills Country Club in Canton.”
The Lakeview Pavilion, an iconic, 108-year-old facility that has hosted countless weddings, proms, and celebrations, burned to the ground right in the middle of a wedding ceremony. An estimated 100 guests were able to safely flee the building. Foxboro fire officials are pointing to the careless disposal of a cigarette as the cause of the fire. Owners are working with area function facilities to accommodate those who had events scheduled at the pavilion.
The Canton Fire Department was on standby during the three-alarm fire, which drew fire trucks from 12 nearby communities.
