Despite a disappointing loss in the late innings to Dedham last week, the CHS baseball team bounced back with arguably its best performance of the season — an 8-2 win over Foxboro on April 24.

With a 1-1 record during school vacation week, the Bulldogs are now 4-4 and still in the hunt for a playoff berth.

In the Foxboro win, sophomore Griffin Jerrier pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on two hits while striking out six in his best game of the season.

More important, the development of Jerrier now gives Canton a potent starting pitching corps that also includes senior captain Sam Larson and sophomore Kevin Powers.

Powers provided key run support in the Foxboro game with two hits and three RBIs. Pat Vartanian also had two big hits and scored two runs.

Earlier in the week against Dedham, the Bulldogs went into the final inning up 1-0 after a strong pitching performance by Larson, only to surrender three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and fall 3-1.

This week, the team was due to host Stoughton on Monday and Taunton on Wednesday before opening a stretch of three straight on the road: King Philip on Friday, May 2; Mansfield on Monday, May 5; and Milford on Wednesday, May 7. All games start at 3:30 p.m.
