Annual Luce CAPT 5K and Fun Run set for May 4
By Canton CitizenThe Dean S. Luce CAPT invites members of the Canton community to its 13th annual 5k and Fun Run on Sunday, May 4, at the Luce School at 45 Independence Street.
This event provides an opportunity for runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to participate in a morning of activities in a friendly neighborhood environment.
The day starts at 10 a.m. with the children’s fun run around the school building. Children ages 4-8 will participate in the half-mile course, while those ages 9-12 will run or walk a one-mile course. Every fun run finisher will receive a medal and a popsicle.
The timed 5k will start at 11 a.m. The 3.1-mile, USTAD-sanctioned course starts on Independence Street, turns down Prospect to Sherman, continues right on Washington, and then travels up Pleasant and back to the school via Independence Street.
The course ends in the school yard with a finish line surrounded by cheering children and their families. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers in all age groups for the 5k.
All participants will enjoy a free cookout provided by Canton’s own Queen Anne’s catering, as well as raffles, DJ, and children’s entertainment.
“The Luce School Fun Run and 5k is a fantastic Canton tradition and family event,” said Melissa Luongo, committee co-chair. “The kids love the fun runs and enjoy getting a medal and popsicle at the end. The 5k is a great loop through Canton and allows runners and walkers to go at their own pace, culminating with everyone celebrating spring with a cookout and activities afterwards. We hope to see lots of neighborhood faces again this year!”
Registration fees are $28 for the 5k and $10 for the Fun Run. Participants can register at www.racemenu.com/Luce5k. Proceeds will benefit the Dean S. Luce CAPT.
