Father, son team up to thwart car burglar

By

A Canton father and son combined efforts to detain a man suspected of breaking into the family car on Wisteria Way (off Lawrence Street) early Saturday morning, May 3, around 12:30 a.m. The 911 caller reported that her husband, Paul McGrath, and son, Dan McGrath, had gone outside to confront the suspect and a disturbance could be heard in the background of the 911 call.

The responding officers found the McGraths holding the suspect, who was dressed in all black. Police said the suspect, Michael Robicheau, 28, of Easton, was found to be in possession of several personal items from the resident’s vehicle. Police also found two other vehicles on Wisteria Way that had been broken into, and the suspect was found to be in possession of items taken from those vehicles as well. Robicheau was charged with three counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, two counts of larceny under $250, destruction of property over $250, receiving stolen property, and resisting arrest. He was held in custody until his arraignment this week.

Dan McGrath told WCVB Channel 5 that he was walking upstairs and saw a light in the car through the window and spotted the suspect inside the SUV. He awoke his father, and both subdued the suspect until police arrived.

Off-duty officers, paramedics save cardiac arrest victim

Two off-duty Stoughton firefighters who attended a boxing match at the Irish Cultural Center this past Saturday quickly applied CPR and used a defibrillator on a woman sitting in the audience who was undergoing cardiac arrest. An AMR ambulance was also on scene and together with Canton paramedics they applied further treatment to the woman. Fire Deputy Chief Scott Johnson said the woman was conscious, breathing, and talking as she was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton. Johnson praised the work of all first responders, who he said “saved this woman’s life.”
