Dorian, Martin R.
By Canton CitizenMartin R. Dorian, of Canton, passed away at Norwood Hospital on June 11.
Born and raised in Brighton, he attended Brighton Public Schools. After graduating from Brighton High School, Martin enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 18 and served during World War II as a Motor Machinist’s Mate Third Class, earning the WWII Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He then went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute.
Mr. Dorian moved to Canton in 1956 and became an active member of the community, serving on the Canton Housing Authority for over 50 years. He also served on the Canton Police Auxiliary. He was also very active at the United Church of Christ in Canton, where he was a member of the Sunday School Committee and served as director for many years. He worked as an agent for Insurance Company of North America for many years before retiring. Marty was an avid golfer, and he loved playing backgammon, solitaire and chess.
Beloved husband for 64 years of the late Lillian L. (Durrell). Father of Deborah J. Morris of Carver and Robert M. Dorian of FL. Also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Thursday, June 19, at 11 a.m. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the United Church of Christ, 1541 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
