Jack O’Neill describes the unique elements of his wheel motor to TechJam co-founder Christine Nolan.

On Thursday, June 12, Jack O’Neill of Canton joined hundreds of other local innovators at City Hall Plaza for the second annual Boston TechJam, a unique exhibition and block party celebrating “new ideas and world-class innovations.”

The event featured live music, local food and drink, interactive activities, a “Shark Tank”-style pitch contest, presentations by student entrepreneurs, countless networking opportunities, and much more.

O’Neill’s patented invention is a unique method of powering a hybrid vehicle that utilizes wheel motors. The method calls for two separate drive systems: a three-phase alternating current variable speed motor for high speeds (35 mph and up) and a mechanical or hydraulic motor directly coupled to the drive wheels for speeds up to 35 mph.
