Rash of break-ins reported on Grand Street
By Mike BergerThree cars were broken into and another vehicle was stolen from Grand Street between Thursday night, July 10, and Friday morning, July 11. The common denominator in all of the thefts was that the vehicles were unlocked and in some cases the keys were left inside. The keys and in one case Sony speakers were taken in the breaks. Deputy Chief Helena Rafferty asked that residents lock their vehicles at all times and keep valuables stored out of view.
WWII grenade found in resident’s home
The State Police Bomb Squad, along with Canton Police and Fire crews, were called to a Sherman Street residence on Monday, July 14, around 9 a.m. after workers found a World War II era grenade while cleaning out a basement. Fire Lt. Greg Woodbury said the grenade fell out of a box as it was being tossed into a dumpster. The State Police Bomb Squad took the grenade off site, took an X-ray of the device and determined that it was inert, and then transported it to a demolition site. Police and Fire crews evacuated the scene until the bomb squad cleared the site at 10:17 a.m.
