Whitty, Donald E.
By Canton CitizenDonald E. Whitty (1923-2014) passed away to eternal rest August 1, 2014, in the company of his family.
Donald was born in and was a lifelong resident of Canton since 1923. He was married to his wife, Constance, for 62 years. After service to his country in the Army Air Corps (1943-1946), he then went to work in the Quincy Shipyard. He subsequently went to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., mainly in Brockton, and retired after 35 years. He was then employed by the Galvin Insurance Agency of Canton for 19 years and retired at the age of 78.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2095 for 54 years, a former member of the Canton Planning Board, and a member of the Canton Town Club, where he played on the football team. Donald was also a member of the American Legion and a member and past president of Wampatuck Country Club. Donald was a true townie; he knew everybody and everybody knew him.
Donald is survived by his five children, Mark Whitty, Colleen Whitty DiSanto, Susan Whitty Kennedy, Paul Whitty, and Maryanne Whitty and their spouses. Donald enjoyed his 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Wednesday, August 6, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.
