Canton lax U-13 named select champions
By GuestCongratulations to the Canton U-13 select boys lacrosse team for winning the Division II championship. It is Canton Youth Lacrosse’s first championship since its inception. Seeded ninth out of 13 teams, Canton fought its way through a difficult playoff schedule, going on the road to beat top seeds Medway, Westwood, and a strong North Attleboro team before taking out Tribal in the finals.
The team started out the season 2-0 but then dropped three straight. At 2-3, a bid for the playoffs was hanging in the balance. The team got together for a ‘no equipment’ practice at the top of Blue Hill where coaches Levence Eutsay and Pete MacKay gave a lesson in mental toughness. Following the Blue Hills experience Canton did not have another loss.
“I knew we had the talent to play with anyone in the league,” Eutsay said. “Our point of emphasis this season was harnessing and orchestrating that talent while building mental fortitude. Our practices were very difficult and high level, but the boys responded in kind.”
In the finals Canton jumped out early on a strong Tribal team with goals from Chris Lavoie (2), John Hagan, (2), Quincy Eutsay (1), and the team’s leading scorer, Tommy Vaughan (2). Canton received strong goaltending from Jack Connolly and finished the game with an 8-4 win and the program’s first championship.
Defensively, Shane Marshall, Max Carlino, Owen Lehane, Andrew Canto, Jace Emma, Jack Kelleher, and Jack Albert all made contributions. At the midfield Kyle Fitzgerald, David Allen, Nick Mackay, Shane and Brendan Spinalle, Jack Norwood, and Ben Guerini helped in the transition game. Offensively, James Murphy, Declan Pfeffer, and Nick Rucupero all contributed to one of the top offenses in the league.
Congratulations U-13 DII select!
