CHS student completes Pan Mass Challenge
By Canton CitizenOn Sunday, August 3, Timmy Gutowski of Canton successfully completed the 35th annual Pan Mass Challenge, riding the 50-mile bike route from Wellesley to Gillette Stadium and back.
Gutowski started out from Babson College with 600-plus riders and finished four hours later back at Babson amongst crowds of cancer survivors and families of victims, who were cheering and clapping and holding signs of “Thank you PMC riders.”
The fundraising minimum for the PMC’s Wellesley to Wellesley route was $500, and Gutowski, whose family has been affected by cancer, was able to raise over $700 thanks to the generous donations of family members, friends, and local businesses.
Although Gutowski is an avid athlete at CHS, playing football and running track, cycling was a new challenge for him and required extensive training in the months leading up to the PMC ride.
The Pan Mass Challenge is the largest single athletic fundraiser in the country. This year, the event raised close to $40 million and has managed to raise an astonishing $414 million since 1980. One hundred percent of all donations go directly towards Dana Farber Cancer Institute and finding a cure for cancer.
Congratulations, Tim, for committing to a worthy cause and a job well done.
