Fitzgerald, Richard J.
By Canton CitizenRichard J. Fitzgerald, 86, of Canton, passed away August 23 at the Hellenic Nursing Home.
Born and raised in Newton, he attended Newton elementary schools and graduated from Quincy High School. Richard enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served his country during World War II. He worked at the South Postal Annex for many years before retiring in 1988. After retiring he moved to Canton in 1989 where he was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed making jewelry, picture framing, and taking long drives, especially to New Hampshire.
Beloved husband of Marion C. (Goodrich). Father of Michael J. Fitzgerald and his wife, Janet, of Hanover, James P. Fitzgerald and his wife, Sandra, of VA, Brian P. Fitzgerald and his wife, Shana, of Dorchester, and Maura K. Fitzgerald of Canton. Brother of Ruth Rogers of Yarmouthport, Phyllis Fitzgerald of Falmouth, Barbara Lee of Mashpee, and the late Robert Fitzgerald. Grandfather of Michael, Erin and Kaleigh Fitzgerald, Allison White, and Amanda Howard. Great-grandfather of Tucker and Taylor.
A funeral mass was held Thursday morning, August 28, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Oblate Missions, 323 Oblate Dr., San Antonio, TX 78216.
