News Notes: Truck collision cuts power on Pleasant St.
By Mike BergerAn unidentified truck driver was transported to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained in a collision with a utility pole on Tuesday, August 19, around 8:30 a.m. near 1138 Pleasant Street. Fire Lt. Greg Woodbury said the collision knocked the utility pole down and electricity was cut to the Pleasant Street neighborhood for a few hours. Portions of Pleasant Street were closed until the accident scene was cleared and utility workers installed a new pole.
Firefighters douse Shawmut Rd. brush fire
Nearly 1,500 gallons of water was needed to extinguish a brush fire near 100 Shawmut Road on Saturday, August 23, around 7 p.m. Fire Lt. Greg Woodbury said the fire damaged brush and woodland but did not damage any of the nearby commercial buildings. Five firefighters responded to the scene, and a DPW backhoe was also needed for cleanup operations.
Public input requested for design of new CPD app
The Canton Police Department is in the process of designing a new department app for Apple and Android devices. The department is asking the public for input as to what features should be included in the new app. Contact Officer Rob Quirk, who runs the department Facebook page.
