Fire Department warns of illegal outdoor fires

By

Firefighters were called to extinguish what they described as an illegal campfire on Cedar Drive on Friday, September 12, around 7:45 p.m. Fire Lt. Greg Woodbury said the only permitted outdoor fires are for cooking and for brush burning with a permit issued by the Fire Department.

The recent dry conditions have led to several mulch fires in the area, including one last Saturday at 194 Washington Street and one on Sunday at 190 Turnpike Street. Woodbury also reminded the public to properly dispose of cigarette butts either in an ash tray or a cigarette receptacle.

In other news, firefighters extinguished a car fire at the intersection of Randolph Street and Westchester Drive on September 10 and assisted the Norwood Fire Department with overhaul and cleanup operations at a two-alarm house fire on September 14.
