Canton PD to host parent education nights
By Mike BergerThe Canton Police Department’s Family Services Unit will present two community education nights next month: an internet safety session for parents on Thursday, November 6, and “notMYkid” on Tuesday, November 18. Both events will be held in the CHS library beginning at 7 p.m.
Topics for the internet safety night will include the risks involved with improper internet usage, current trends, and prevention tips. The presentation should last approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a question and answer session. According to Sgt. Charles Rae, this event is open to all parents in the community. Children will not be allowed to attend.
NotMYkid is a 45-minute drug awareness presentation for parents with an emphasis on prevention. The presentation will guide parents on how to have a conversation with their children about drugs. This event is open to all parents in the community, but is primarily geared toward parents of middle school students. Children will not be allowed to attend.
For both sessions, those who would like to attend should send a courtesy email to either Sgt. Rae or Detective Chip Yeaton at crae@town.canton.ma.us or yeatonc@cantonma.org.
Firefighters respond to 2 CO incidents
Canton firefighters, the town gas inspector, and the gas utility company responded to two separate calls last week involving high amounts of carbon monoxide being detected inside homes on Bailey Street and Bay Drive (Avalon apartment complex off Randolph Street).
The first call occurred around 4:30 p.m. on October 21 and the second call came in at 2 a.m. on October 25. Fire Lt. Greg Woodbury said normal levels of carbon monoxide are five parts per million; however, it was 80 parts per million in the Bailey Street residence and 53 parts per million in the Bay Drive home.
In both instances, the source of the high CO levels was traced to the furnace. CO detectors inside the homes alerted the homeowners to call the Fire Department.
