The Jewish Cardinal playing at TBA November 15
By Canton CitizenThe community is invited to attend the screening of the critically acclaimed drama The Jewish Cardinal on Saturday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Abraham, located at 1301 Washington Street in Canton.
Whether you’re interested in religion, or conflict, or just people, you’ll find something that rings true for you in The Jewish Cardinal.
The film tells the amazing true story of Jean-Marie Lustiger, the son of Polish-Jewish immigrants who maintained his cultural identity as a Jew even after converting to Catholicism at a young age and later joining the priesthood. Quickly rising within the ranks of the church, Lustiger was appointed Archbishop of Paris by Pope Jean Paul II and found a new platform to celebrate his dual identity as a Catholic Jew, earning him friends and enemies from both groups. When Carmelite nuns settle down to build a convent within the cursed walls of Auschwitz, Lustiger finds himself a mediator between the two communities — and may be forced at last to choose his side.
Ilan Duran Cohen succeeds in his effort to entertain, adapt, and clarify all that makes The Jewish Cardinal such a perfectly wrought film. Whether you are a Christian or Jew, both or neither, chances are it’ll teach you something worth knowing.
Admission is $10 per person in advance or $15 at the door. A concession stand will be open with light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase. For tickets, please call the temple office at 781-828-5250 or email theoffice@templebethabraham.org.
