Supt. reluctantly begins search for new Hansen principal
By Mike BergerSchool Superintendent Jeff Granatino informed the School Committee last week that he has reluctantly begun the process of searching for a replacement for Hansen School Principal Peter Boucher, who tendered his resignation a few weeks ago.
Boucher, who is popular with parents and staff, has accepted an offer to be the athletic director at Milford High School, which is much closer to his home. Granatino said Boucher will stay on as principal until an interim principal can be named. Granatino said he is hopeful to have the position filled within the next few weeks.
Once the interim position has been filled, Granatino will then begin the search for a full-time replacement, who would start on July 1. Granatino anticipates the process will begin in December with a search committee beginning to interview candidates in January followed by an appointment sometime in mid February.
In his announcement to the School Committee, Granatino praised Boucher’s performance and noted that he has excelled at every position he has held in the Canton Public Schools, from his start as a wellness teacher and CHS girls cross country coach to his years as a K-12 wellness coordinator, to his service as interim Hansen principal and permanent school principal for the past three years.
“He has changed the culture at the Hansen School, begun new initiatives, and is the creator of the slogan, ‘Team Hansen,’” Granatino said.
A few weeks ago, the Hansen School was recognized as one of only 42 elementary schools in the state — and the only school in Canton — to attain a Level 1 status for meeting all of its improvement targets on the spring MCAS exam.
